The Born Free Foundation

born FreeThe Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity, devoted to compassionate conservation and animal welfare working throughout the world to stop individual wild animal suffering and protect threatened species in the wild. Born Free believes wildlife belongs in the wild and works to phase out zoos. Working with local communities to help people and wildlife live together without conflict, Born Free protects species including elephants, lions, gorillas, polar bears, tigers, wolves and much more in their natural habitat.

For centuries, elephants have been exploited for ivory, as weapons of war, for ceremonial purposes, by the logging industry, and by zoos and circuses. Born Free’s Elephant Campaign was set up in 1989 when reports showed 200 elephants a day were being slaughtered for ivory. Today it fights the brutal ivory trade in Africa and Asia and campaigns to protect wild elephants and their habitat, expose the plight of captive elephants and help care for rescued elephants.

Our high-profile campaigns change public attitudes, persuade decision-makers and get results. Every year, Born Free helps hundreds of thousands of animals worldwide. http://www.bornfree.org.uk/
