Hello Schools

Elephants in the Classroom

Go Elephants! was all about having fun and one group of artists  embraced that aspect whole-heartedly. Keen to encourage artists of all ages to participate, Go Elephants! featured a significant Schools Programme with twenty-four beautifully designed and decorated smaller Baby Elephants from Schools across Norfolk.

The schools used a specially created Education Pack, developed by Wild in Art, to support their activity, demonstrating that the creative process can be huge fun whilst learning about areas of conservation and citizenship. Teachers and pupils  got into the spirit and built stories and activities around their elephants.

First there’s been the issue of finding the elephants:
“Green and Blue class went out to play and spent the whole time searching for clues! Lunchtime was then full of enthusiastic children trying to find the babies….Some children said they’d found footprints and elephant poo!” Ashleigh Infant School

Then there was the problem of keeping them:
“Unfortunately you gave us a really naughty elephant - the reception class build a compound for him every night but he always escapes. Every morning they have to send out a search party of strong children to carry him back.” Swanton Morley Primary School

Here are just a few examples of the inspiration behind the Schools Herd of Elephants.

“The School Council discussed using the elephant in the Healthy Schools project…we’ll stick pictures of fruit and vegetables onto the elephant” Spixworth Infant School

“Our designs are inspired by a visit to a textile exhibition” St John’s Infant School.
